Free baggage allowance

Free baggage allowance depends on the class of service, routing and is stated on your ticket.

All your baggage, including hand baggage has to be shown to our check-in staff. This is safety requirement.

The following items are recommended to carry in your hand baggage:

money, jewellery, securities, business documents,  passports and other identification documents, computers (e.g. laptops, PCs), cameras.

Please do not put these items  in your checked baggage.

Checked baggage means baggage of which the carrier takes custody, issues the baggage identification tag and is carried in the hold of the aircraft.

The overall dimensions of each piece of checked baggage for all classes of service must not exceed 158 cm (length + width + height).  For children under the age of 2years   115 cm.

Please mark each piece of baggage with the label indicating your name, address and phone number.

Please take care of your baggage receipts which you will need in case of delay or baggage loss.

Your free baggage allowance is based on the weight concept.

Checked baggage

Hand baggage

Hand baggage may not exceed the dimensions 55x40x20 cm and the weight of 8 kg. You can check this using the hand baggage gauge at the airport. Any items above these limits will have to be checked-in. Please bear this in mind when packing to ensure that your checked baggage does not exceed the free baggage allowance.

Free Carry on Items

Passengers may carry, free of charge, the following items:

  • an umbrella; 
  • walking stick;
  • a bunch of flowers;
  • a lady's or man's handbag;
  • a reasonable amount of reading material;
  • a laptop, a photo camera, a video camera
  • food for your infant during the flight;
  • a cell phone;
  • crutches;
  • Duty Free purchases (1 shopping bag).

If checked in, these items become part of the checked baggage and do not qualify for free carriage if they cause excess weight of the checked baggage.

EXCEPTIONS: Infant's carrying basket or fully collapsible stroller/pushchair, wheelchair, medical equipment is carried in hold, free of charge.

Hand baggage restrictions

Liquids - may only be carried on board in a clear plastic bag.

Please make sure you observe the following rules, otherwise your liquids may be confiscated at the security checkpoint:

Liquids, gels and sprays must be held in individual containers not exceeding 100 ml.

Only one plastic bag is permitted per passenger.

Please present the plastic bag for separate screening at the security checkpoint.

Depending on the operating aircraft type, the hand baggage allowance may be reduced to 5 kg.

Dangerous goods & prohibited items

Dangerous goods (DG) are articles and substances, which may be hazardous to passengers, crew, aircraft or the environment.

Special regulations are applicable for the transport of these goods.

Do not carry the following dangerous articles in your baggage or on your person:

  • Briefcases and security type attached cases with installed alarm devices;
  • Incorporative lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic material;
  • Explosives, munitions, fireworks and flares;
  • Gases (flammable, non-flammable, deeply refrigerated and poisonous), such as camping gas and aerosols;
  • Flammable liquids, such as lighter fuels, paints and thinner;
  • Flammable solids, such as matches and articles that are easily ignited, substances liable to spontaneous combustion, substances that on contact with water emit flammable gases;
  • Oxidizing substances, such as bleaching powder and peroxides;
  • Poisonous (toxic) and infectious substances;
  • Radioactive materials;
  • Corrosives (such as mercury which may be contained in thermometers), acids, alkalis and wet-cell batteries;
  • Disabling devices such as mace, pepper spray, etc. containing an irritant or incapacitating substance;      
  • Magnetized materials.

Articles that can be carried in the checked baggage in limited quantities

  • hair sprays, perfumes, colognes and medicines containing alcohol
  • matches
  • aerosols
  • alcoholic beverages not exceeding 70% alcohol by volume
  • avalanche rescue backpack
  • battery powered wheelchairs/mobility devices
  • camping stoves and fuel containers
  • cardiac pacemaker
  • cigarette lighters
  • diving lamps
  • hair curlers containing hydrocarbon gas provided the safety cover is securely fitted over  the heating element.
  • life jacket
  • lithium ion batteries, an aggregate equivalent lithium content of less than 8 g.
  • medical oxygen
  • medicinal or toilet articles
  • mercury thermometer or barometer in its protective case.
  • non-flammable, non toxic gas cylinders
  • oxygen or air cylinders for medical use
  • portable medical electronic devices

Prohibited articles in the cabin baggage:

 For safety reasons, certain articles/ items are prohibited to carry in the cabin baggage.Guns, firearms and other devices that can cause serious injury if being used.

  • Firearms of all types, such as pistols, revolvers, rifles, shotguns
  • Toy guns, replicas and imitation firearms capable of being mistaken for real weapons
  • Component parts of firearms, excluding telescopic sights
  • Compressed air and CO2 guns, such as pistols, rifles and guns
  • Signal flare pistols and starter pistols
  • Harpoon guns and spear guns

Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge can cause serious injury if being used

  • Razor blades
  • Knives
  • Scissors
  • Swords and sabres

Blunt instruments - objects capable of being used to cause serious injury.

  • Baseball and softball bats
  • Clubs or batons, such as billy clubs, blackjacks and night sticks

Explosives and incendiary substances and devices

explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable, or appearing capable, of being used to cause serious injury or to pose a threat to the safety of aircraft, including:

  • Ammunition
  • Blasting caps
  • Detonators and fuses
  • Replica or imitation explosive devices
  • Mines, grenades and other explosive military stores
  • Fireworks and other pyrotechnics
  • Smoke-generating canisters and smoke-generating cartridges

Special baggage

Any special baggage such as sport equipment - ski, snowboard, bicycle, golf equipment, fishing must be booked and confirmed by Georgian Airways for transportation.

The transportation is not included in free baggage allowance.

Special baggage is charged separately..

Ski equipment- snow and water

One set of snow equipment includes

  • one pair of skis;
  • one pair of ski poles;
  • one pair of ski boots;

Snowboard equipment

The snowboard equipment includes

  • snowboard
  • one pair of boots.

Golf equipment

The golf equipment includes

  • one golf bag;
  • golf clubs/balls
  • a pair of golf shoes


Regular bicycle (touring or racing) non-motorized

Packing requirement

  • handlebars must be fixed to the frame;
  • pedals removed;
  • packed in a carton box or a special plastic bag.

Guns and Ammunitions

Ammunition, arms and other weapons belonging to the category of non-explosive shall only be accepted for carriage as checked baggage.

Weapons or ammunition with explosive or incendiary projectiles belonging to the category of dangerous goods may be transported as cargo (if not totally prohibited) only according to DGR Rules.

Military weapons may not be carried as checked baggage.

The following arms are accepted for transportation in hold:

  • Sporting guns, sporting rifles and sporting pistols/revolvers;
  • Hunting rifles;
  • Other small defense arms, such as knives, daggers, stiletto's, etc
